Talking about SEO to clients can be challenging at times. You have the type of people that know a little bit about SEO, at least enough to know that it is important. You also have the Non-SEO people who believe they don’t need it, that SEO is a myth, or who are otherwise in some form of denial about its effectiveness.

Just the other day I came across a client that told me “I did SEO once before and so I don’t need to do it again.”

What most people don’t realize is that whilst they believe the job is done, the freshness signals that determine their organic rankings are already declining once the work stops.

Over time, if you don’t think about SEO, your organic rankings will decline, or in the worst case, they can plummet from events such as new algorithm updates from Google. You remember Panda and Penguin?

Keep doing SEO otherwise your organic search traffic will drop

Some SEO Love

It is very sad to see peoples’ organic rankings drop, but 99% of the time that is what happens when you don’t put any consistent effort in. It may not be straight away, but over time, without some SEO love, your web rankings will fall.

It is vital for any website owner / manager to give attention to the SEO work on a continuous basis.

“Why?” I hear you ask. Well, it is because:

There is something called link degradation. Simply put, over time links lose their power and become less valuable.

Other people (perhaps your competition) are publishing new pages that have to do with your money keywords, and Google loves new content.

Google likes to alter it’s search engine algorithms which could lead to huge traffic declines. Google is about to launch an update for mobile websites which is considered to me hugely detrimental to anyone without a mobile version of their website.

The competition is not sitting still – for sure they are working on their websites!

There are more reasons of course, not that you should need any more.

Yes, there are certain websites out there that do not need to do much SEO work. They are few and far between and you should not assume that you are one of them. If you are lucky enough to not need your website to get customers, rather you just use it for people who know your brand then you are one of the lucky ones.

If not, you need to get to grips with SEO for your site, or see that decline in web traffic.
