SEO Tips for Bloggers
1. Write long enough content
The biggest mistake that some bloggers make is writing short content. The danger here is that search engines will ignore your pages because they perceive them as having too little information. Instead, the results will only feature websites with long insightful posts.
As a rule of the thumb, write 400-500 words every time you write something new. Pages with less than 300 words are not ideal. Matter of fact if you want to get your content shared widely on social media then ensure that it is long enough(1500+ words), information packed and interesting to read.
Long form content as it is now known helps you stand out as an expert and authority in your niche.
When determining the length of your posts, always remember that the longer a post is, the more chances you have of including your target keywords.
2. Take advantage of Meta data
Meta data refers to the unseen information about your website pages. It is also referred to as Meta description. While search engines can see your website’s Meta data, ordinary users do not. Ensure that you include your target keywords in your Meta descriptions and alt text.
You can write the Meta data yourself or invest in an array of online tools to help you with that. In fact, you can find some templates on blogs that already have this done for you.
Writing good metadata or meta-descriptions helps your website rank high on SERPs for your target keywords.
3. Use images well
You know the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. When you look at traditional magazines, journals and newspapers, they all have pictures. This is because humans are drawn to pictures faster than they are to text.
For this reason, use a picture for every couple of paragraphs you write. In fact, a good image can draw the attention of a visitor and lead them to read the story that the picture accompanies. More importantly, let the name of the picture be friendly.
If you sell cars, for example, let the image name be something like ‘The new Toyota Mark II.jpg’ and not ‘7462976.jpg’.
Keep Monitoring Your Progress!
Be sure to use analytics tools like Google Analytics to help you gain a better understanding of the kind of traffic you are getting on your blog or website, where it is coming from, what actions it is taking once it lands on your website/blog, etc.
